MORE women in Turkana county give birth at home compared tothose who deliver in hospitals, area medical officer Joseph Epem hassaid. Epem attributed this to high illiteracy level, hugegeographical area of the county and poverty. Epem said the nearest medicalfacility is over 50km away from where people reside. "Turkana county is 77,000 km and health facilities are scarce bearing in mind that most of the roads are impassable,"Epem said.
