Oxfam Awards to recognize the role of women champions of economic empowerment

New report published by OXFAM’s Policy and Practice Blog explains that women are leading the way in economic empowerment in agriculture. To commemorate International Women’s Day, Oxfam’s International Executive Director, Ms. Winnie Byanyima, announced the seven winners of the 2016 Oxfam Women’s Economic Empowerment Leadership Awards. This honor is meant to recognize the staff members of partner and community organizations, as well as Oxfam, who have shown exceptional championship of women’s economic empowerment. This is the relation of winners:

  1. Kona S. Kollie, Founder and Executive Director of the Young Liberian Women's Organisation for Improvement
  2. Ume Laila Azhar, CEO of Homenet Pakistan
  3. Magdalena Fueres, President of the Women's Central Committee of the Union of Indigenous and Peasant Organisations in Cotacachi, Ecuador
  4. Mariam Nana, President of the Parboilers Women's Union of Bagré, Burkina Faso
  5. Jomkwan Kwanyuen, Gender Justice Programme Officer, Oxfam in Thailand
  6. Jocelyn Villanueva, Asia Regional Change Lead - Women's Economic Empowerment
  7. Seble Teweldbirhan, Media and Communications Officer, Oxfam in Ethiopia
