This resource describe's UNFPA's strategy for working with governments and partners in promoting gender equality around the world. It describes the purpose behind gender equality strategy and needs for gender mainstreaming.

This report highlights lessons learned from ten pilot projects that used a programme guide created by UNFPA to help health care providers address gender-based violence. It also summarizes presentations from ten experts on gender-based violence and recommendations from the three working groups.

This brochure provides an overview and analysis of progress made, and setbacks encountered, by women in accessing parliament during elections and renewals held in 2007. It presents data on women's representation in national parliaments, regional and world trends, information on women presiding officers and women candidates. It also analyses mechanisms aimed at supporting women's access to parliament.

As part of its efforts to strengthen the capacity of parliaments to promote gender equality and respect for women's rights, the IPU organised a first seminar of parliamentary bodies dealing with gender issues. This paper describes UNIFEM’s work in empowering women in Afghanistan since early 2002. UNIFEM's activities aimed at supporting women’s leadership and participation in decision-making, strengthening the Ministry of Women’s Affairs in Afghanistan, and establishing women's Development Centers.

By presenting methods for generating pro-poor gender sensitive indicators, this framework assists policy-makers to monitor and evaluate democratic governance at the country level.
