The election of an unprecedented number women (6) to the Lower House of Parliament in 2003 was a remarkable step toward strengthening women’s political participation in Jordan. The subsequent appointment of eight women to the Senate also contributed to the establishment of a “first class” of Jordanian women legislators to challenge traditional attitudes about women’s role in society.
With support from the National Endowment for Democracy, NDI has produced "First Class" — a report and a documentary video profiling Jordanian women serving in the lower and upper houses of Parliament.
