This group is created to discuss the issues related to women in politics in the Middle East and North Africa region. What are the barriers faced by women leaders and activists in the MENA region?
UPDATED 2011:
We would like to invite members of this group to share their experience on how must women be immersed in all aspects of all legal reform activities as early as possible in a political transition.
If anyone has experience of sudden onset political change such as we are seeing on a regional level in the MENA, could you advise on the following issues:
1. What is the top priority to ensure women’s broad participation in the transition?
2. What is the most effective means by which to capture women’s concerns and harness their capacities, particularly in institution building and state reform?
Its time we give our children a dignified future

THE Egyptian press changed in one very obvious way when Mubarak’s reign ended. His wife, Suzanne Mubarak, suddenly disappeared from the front pages.

Women and Politics in the Middle East
Hi!
I am a news correspondent for the Brazilian Section of the BBC World Service and would like to do a story about women in politics in the Middle East. Could somebody tell me about the situation in the region? Are there specific countries where more progress is being made? What are the main actions for that?
