Our Knowledge

Ask the Experts

iKNOW Politics offers a unique tool that allows its members to ask questions of over 100 internationally recognized experts on issues related to women’s political participation.

We are pleased to highlight the first iKNOW Politics consolidated response on Establishing Women's Party Sections , prepared in response to a query from iKNOW Politics member. The consolidated response illustrates the key steps to establishing a women’s party section as recommended by iKNOW Politics experts, scholars and practitioners.

In a follow up interview with the consolidated response recipient, Lily Wangchuck, Head of the Women's Wing of the People's Democratic Party, Bhutan, speaks about how iKNOW Politics has helped her to make a contribution toward gender equality as Bhutan moves toward parliamentary democracy. “The consolidated response from the International Knowledge Network of Women in Politics helped me to understand the operation of Women’s Wings in other countries and to formulate The Strategic Plan for Women Democrats which will become part of our Party Manifesto.” Read more...

Our Voices

iKNOW Politics creates knowledge by facilitating global discussions on women’s political empowerment.

The first moderated iKNOW Politics E-discussion (10-14 December 2007) focused on the theme of Eliminating Violence against Women in Politics . The discussion elicited seventeen contributions from members of iKNOW Politics' global network, from Kenya to Ecuador, from Sweden to Iraq, from Southeast Asia to South Eastern Europe. Members identified forms of violence against women in politics and shared measures that have proven effective in countering the violence. The review of the e-discussion incorporates a summary of key findings and the full text of all contributions.

iKNOW Politics’ next moderated e-discussion forum will take place in early 2008. Visit the iKNOW Politics site in the coming weeks for information on the focus of the discussion and instructions on how to register.

From the E-Discussion on Eliminating Violence Against Women in Politics

“Who amongst those of us participating in the e-discussion on violence against women in politics could have imagined that the week following our exchanges would be, alas, a week of martyrdom exactly in line with the topic that linked us during the previous weeks? Rest in peace, Madame Bhutto! You will remain engraved in our hearts and our minds. We will not be deterred, but ever the more determined to continue the struggle!"
