iKNOW Politics creates and shares knowledge worldwide through its online resource library, discussion forums,
and the Ask the Experts feature.
iKNOW Politics offers a unique tool that allows its members to ask questions of over 100 internationally recognized
experts on issues of women in politics. The experts readily provide their expertise and share their experiences
in response to queries from members.
We are pleased to highlight the second iKNOW Politics consolidated response
on the Rise of Women in Parliaments in Sub-Saharan Africa,
prepared to reply to a query from an iKNOW Politics member. This consolidated response
highlights a number of factors stimulating the advancement of women in politics in Africa, including gender quotas
in politics, national womens movements, and the spillover effect of democratic values throughout the continent.
This consolidated response was compiled in consultations with leading international and regional experts and

Our Voices
iKNOW Politics provides a global forum for women leaders and their
supporters to exchange their views and discuss issues essential to
women’s political empowerment.

iKNOW Politics’ second e-discussion forum, focusing on Increasing Women’s Political Participation Through Gender Quotas,
will take place in May. This global e-discussion will allow iKNOW
Politics members, practitioners, activists, women leaders and their
male counterparts to exchange views on the topic and develop strategic
recommendations on how to effectively promote and implement quotas in
various electoral systems. This free and user-friendly discussion forum
will create a wealth of knowledge on the focus theme and connect women

iKNOW Politics Celebrated International Women’s Day with Launches in Brussels and Mexico City
On March 3, iKNOW Politics partners and supporters gathered in
Mexico City and Brussels to celebrate women’s achievements in politics
and to introduce iKNOW Politics to over 500 women leaders, government
representatives, activists, and practitioners. On the day of these
launches, more than 4,700 people visited the iKNOW Politics website and
about 90 users have become iKNOW Politics members. Read more…
Women Shaping Politics: Gender, Parliamentary Representation and Legislative Agenda
This Regional seminar for Latin American Parliaments was organized
by International IDEA, IPU, the Parliament of Uruguay, Parlamenta, and
the University of the Republic on March 10-11, 2008, in Montevideo,
Uruguay. The seminar provided an opportunity for women parliamentarians
and academics to share their views and make recommendations on key
issues facing women in the region as well as to discuss some ways for
promoting these concerns onto the political agenda. Read more…
