Egypt women take on parliamentary election

Egyptian women are getting their names heard this month ahead of a November 28 parliamentary vote, albeit in small numbers. Over 100 women are running in this year’s election. It comes as women’s rights in Egypt continue to flounder, but candidates are hopeful they can make a difference.

The state-run High Elections Commission said that out of the 5,720 candidates who filed paperwork to run for parliament, only 132 are women. More than 10 of those are affiliated with the largest opposition group the Muslim Brotherhood.
