In Tbilisi was held a two-day conference on “Funding the political parties" and “Women's participation in political processes". During the conference the Vice - Speaker of the Parliament of the Gender Equality Council, Rusudan Kervalishvili welcomed the participants and talked about the activities and problems in terms of gender equality in Georgia in recent years. She pointed out that regardless of steps taken to identify the main directions of state policy regarding gender equality issues at the legislative level, it is still difficult for women to participate in politics.

UN Women observes progress in many areas, including expanding women’s leadership roles and enhancing women’s economic empowerment. For many women, poverty and violence are every day facts of life as they fight to acquire equal rights with men – in employment, family, property, as well as access to public services and security, says UN Women's program director for the sub-regional office for Eastern Europe and Central Asia, Damira Sartbaeva. She believes that the international and local community should invest adequate human and financial resources to the fight against gender inequality.
