Parliamentary elections will be held on June 28, 2009. The Assembly has 140 members, elected according to a proportional system, with multi-name election zones that correspond to 12 administrative-territorial regions mentioned above. Remarks from NDI's Central and Eastern Europe Regional Director
On June 4, 2009, NDI's Central and Eastern Europe Regional Director, Robert Benjamin, offered remarks on Albania’s upcoming June 28 parliamentary elections in the context of its democratic transition as part of a briefing hosted by the U.S. Commission on Security and Cooperation in Europe on June 4 and chaired by commission Co-Chairman U.S. Rep. Alcee Hastings (D-FL). U.S. Rep. Eliot Engel (D-N.Y.), Eliz Biberaj, director of the Eurasia Division of Voice of America and Jonas Rolett, regional director of South Central Europe at the Open Society Institute also provided remarks on the elections.
