Primary Responsibilities
Serve as an in-house resource person on women’s political participation programs globally; work with NDI regional teams to conceptualize and design women’s legislative, civic, and political party programs;
Develop program concepts and lead strategic discussions; facilitate sharing of program strategies across regional teams;
Work as team player within the women’s political participation team, providing back-up to the Director of Women’s Political Participation, providing advice on general women’s programs and supervising work by junior members of the team and interns;
Identify opportunities and secure funding for women’s programs;
Conduct research on a broad range of women’s political participation themes;
Assist with event management and other public outreach efforts;
Conduct training and strategy workshops for women in program countries;
Initiate and maintain relations with high-level political partners; cultivate successful relationships with donors;
Maintain collaborative relationships with international democratic development organizations, civic organizations and NDI's network of volunteer trainers and experts; act as back-up to team members not present;
Draft or oversee drafting, final editing and submission of board memos, proposals, work plans, website text, quarterly and other reports with minimal substance guidance; edit work of Program and Senior Program Assistants and Program Officers;
Train and offer advice and guidance for NDI staff.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree preferably in international relations, political science, public policy or gender studies; graduate degree preferred;
Minimum of six (6) years relevant work experience in international development, political party development, community organizing, political campaigns, organizational development, legislative affairs, or equivalent experience at NDI;
Additional years of relevant work experience may be substituted for educational requirement;
Demonstrated work experience in program design and strategy;
Demonstrated work experience in women's issues, gender equity, or related areas, particularly as they apply to international issues and/or politics;
Demonstrated training experience;
Life and work experience outside the US preferred;
Demonstrated knowledge and/or competency in one or more areas of NDI's functional programs;
Excellent interpersonal skills and cultural sensitivity to effectively interact with all levels of staff, US and foreign government personnel, members of donor organizations, funders, and policy makers;
Exceptional verbal and written communication skills;
Excellent organizational and administrative abilities including budget and accounting skills;
Strong attention to detail;
Ability to analyze political work, think innovatively and introduce new concepts;
Ability to travel;
Ability to work independently and cooperatively in a fast-paced environment;
Ability to take initiative and follow through on multiple tasks;
Ability to lead, inspire and motivate staff;
Varied computer skills, including database applications. Web design is a plus;
Language skills a plus.
