Practices and Policies Used by Political Parties to Promote Women in Politics

Since political parties are gatekeepers of elections, it is important that they support and promote women candidates during elections and in political processes. It would be great to hear form iKNOW Politics members about some practices and internal policies, besides the adoption of quotas, implemented by political parties that led to the increase of women's political participation or a policy change. Are there any cases of parties establishing a women’s branch, allocating funds for women's training, including women in party conventions, creating strategies to help women fundraise, etc.?

Dear members iKNOW Politics produced a consolidated response that highlights strategies and policies that may be used in addition to gender quotas by political parties to increase the numbers of women in politics. The strategies described in this response include establishing women’s sections in political parties, providing women candidates with training and financial assistance to hold effective campaigns, creating a forum for women to lobby and discuss policy, and offering political parties incentives for promoting women in politics.
