All colleges should aleady include "Introduction to Gender" as a core subject so that both male and female students will be oriented to the the issue of gender discrimination, the ideology of patriarchy and the principle of gender equality. In the Philippines, the Commission on Higher Education is consistently advocating Gender Studies programs at the tertiary level, initated by such progressive institutions as the University of the Philippines and Miriam College decades back. Students of these courses and subjects, after having learned about gender, can be encouraged to participate, even lead, in activities and projects to expand awareness of the youth, encourage alternative behavior such as in dating relationships and discourage or shun sexist language and behavior including sexual harassment in schools. Such awareness will also prepare both males and females cope or thrive in the labor market where sexism continues to prevail.
