Better balance in power and politics: connecting, sharing and learning in an international context

In October 2018, the British Council published Women, Power, Politics: what’s changed in 100 years? The webinar Better balance in power and politics: connecting, sharing and learning in an international context will build on the recommendations from the report and celebrate the International Women’s Day theme for 2019; ‘Better the balance, better the world’ and the UN Women’s IWD theme, ‘Think Equal, Build Smart, Innovate for Change’.

The webinar will provide an innovative virtual forum for connecting politicians, academics, NGOs, campaigners, activists, and others from across the world, who are promoting women’s political representation and empowerment.

The British Council will be working closely with the report research team from Happen Together CIC to host these sessions to create a transnational space for discussion, encourage debate on the most pressing issues and how to generate opportunities to support and enhance women’s political participation.

Speakers:

  • Shannon O’Connell, Senior Advisor on Equality, Inclusion and Politics at the Westminster Foundation for Democracy
  • Hon. Patricia A. Tornsey, Permanent Observer of the Inter-Parliamentary Union to the United Nations in New York
  • Mikayla Jones, Birmingham Senior Programme Manager at Uprising
  • Khawla Ben Aicha, Member of Parliament at the Tunisian Assembly and Head of Foreign Affairs of Macrou Tounes
