The Knowledge Gateway for Women's Economic Empowerment invites you to add your voice and share your views to the e-discussion on "Enabling environment and legal incentives for women's employment" co-organized by UNDP, UN Women and the World Bank Group. The e-discussion will run from 15 to 29 January midnight EST and will focus on laws that can enable and incentivize greater participation of women in the economy and in the labour market.

A panel of experts has been invited to lead the discussion on a number of pertinent issues on women and employment, and will be seeking your contributions to the conversation.

  • Marieke Koning, Equality Department, International Trade Union Confederation
  • Edward (Ned) Lawton, Chief Technical Advisor, Gender Bureau, International Labour Office
  • Monique Newiak, Economist, International Monetary Fund
  • Keiko Nowacka, Gender Project Coordinator, Wikigender, OECD Development Center
  • Dr. Rangita de Silva de Alwis, Director, Global Women's Leadership Initiative, The Wilson Center
  • Elizabeth Slattery, Senior Employment Partner, Hogan Lovell

The e-discussion aims to:

  • Bring attention to the findings of the 2014 Women, Business and the Law report with special focus on laws that support women's access to paid employment.
  • Encourage inputs from participants on the impacts of effective national laws and regulations to promote women's access to paid employment.
  • Collect suggestions and recommendations on other policies, laws, regulations, or public programmes that enable and incentivize women's paid employment and men to share childcare responsibilities.
  • Seek inputs on successful advocacy initiatives that have been able to influence policies, laws, and programmes that incentivize women's employment and that encourage and accelerate reform.
  • Provide inputs, suggestions and recommendations into the preparation of the 2014 Commission on the Status of Women's (CSW) review of its 2011 agreed conclusions on "Access and participation of women and girls to education, training, science and technology, including for the promotion of women's equal access to full employment and decent work."
