Bahrain: Women set to make their mark in poll

WOMEN candidates dismissed fears last night that Bahrain's democracy is sidelining them during next month's elections due to their decreased number. They said this year's electoral race and past results will create a large segment of Bahraini women to re-emerge in the political arena in 2014. However, parliamentary candidate Dr Muneera Fakhro contributed the nine female candidacy list to disappointing electoral results witnessed by Bahrain during the 2006 elections. "The reason for women's unsuccessful attempts at reaching parliament is because the government is not intervening or encouraging women to do so," she claimed. "We need action and financial support not just promises and words."
