6 Mar 2012 - The near absence of women in the Bhutanese parliament has always been a cause of unease for government leaders.

When the Bhutanese parliament was a unicameral one, with close to 150 members, it was even more glaring.

The people’s elected representatives from the villages made up 100 members, and the rest in orange, red, and blue were ministers, dzongdas, representatives of the monk body and the royal advisory council.
