Vanuatu: A group of women candidates prepares for Vanuatu's election

Source:

It's less than two months to Vanuatu's general elections, and 18 women have shown their interest to stand as candidates.

They have been attending a workshop to prepare for the elections.

Since independence in 1980, only five women have been elected as members of Vanuatu's parliament.

One of the women at the workshop is Rose Nabong from the island of Ambrym in central Vanuatu.

She told our local correspondent Hilaire Bule, the people in her community asked her to stand as their candidate.

Listen to the interview with Rose Nabong at Radio Australia (9 August 2012) and read more at Radio New Zealand International (9 August 2012).
