Project Update

The National Democratic Institute for International Affairs (NDI) seeks to hire a Regional Coordinator for iKNOW Politics in the Asia region. Based out of NDI’s field office in Jakarta, Indonesia, the Regional Coordinator would remotely work under the direct supervision of and report on a daily basis to the iKNOW Politics Project Manager, and would be responsible for initiating activities to exchange best practices and experiences from among women in Asian politics, grassroots organizations, and sectors with limited access to technology.

During a panel on "Empowerment of young women by means of the innovative use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT)", delegates of a number of non-governmental organisations (NGOs) shared their experiences Tuesday. "Girls, teenagers and young women are less familiar with the new communication techniques," Inés Alberdi, executive director of UNIFEM (the United Nations Development Fund for Women, now part of UN Women), told IPS.

The President’s forum with Young African leaders brought together over hundred young leaders from civil society and the private sector from more than forty sub-Saharan African countries with American counterparts and U.S government officials

The International Knowledge Network of Women in Politics (iKNOW Politics) launched its website, iknowpolitics.org, in Indonesia on Thursday to provide a forum for women to learn about politics from other countries’ experiences.  Creators said the website aimed to increase the participation and effectiveness of women in political life by stimulating dialogue, creating knowledge and sharing experiences.  

Due to its apparent efforts to improve women participation in politics, Indonesia was elected as the first country in the Asia Pacific region to see on Thursday the launching of politics empowerment program for women initiated by international agencies.

Jakarta, Indonesia: iKNOW Politics, an online network dedicated to the advancement of women in politics, celebrated its Indonesian launch in Jakarta today, opening up the platform to new users in a region where women are politically underrepresented.

The iKNOW Politics team is pleased to welcome Doaa Abdelaal, Regional Coordinator for the Middle East and North Africa region and Arabic language facilitator. The new Regional Coordinator brings a wide range of experience and knowledge to iKNOW Politics, which will help to make the network even more accessible to women across the world and to provide services to regional and grassroots organizations.
