Access to Justice for Women Victims of Sexual Violence in Mesoamerica

The InterAmerican Commission on Human Rights (hereinafter “the Commission” or “the IACHR”) presents this thematic report in which it examines the dimensions of the problem of sexual violence in Mesoamerica.  It examines the regulatory and jurisdictional dimensions of this issue, as well as the obstacles that women victims encounter in endeavoring to obtain an adequate access to justice, with particular emphasis on El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua.  In this sense, the report focuses on the areas of prevention, investigation, prosecution, and the punishment of sexual violence cases, as well as the judicial protection system’s treatment of victims and their next of kin.
