A total of 159 women candidates will compete for a seat in the parliament of Togo in the upcoming elections that will be held next July 25. There are 1174 candidates, of which 13.5% are women. Togo’s National Assembly will enlarge its number of seats from 81 to 91 after the upcoming elections.
There are currently less than a quarter of women in Togo's government and 8 women are members of the parliament ( representing less than 10% ). Women in Togo were not able to vote until 1945.
