Europe: Lack of gender balance in European Parliament

Source:

The members of the European Parliament will vote on 17 January on who should be their president for the next 30 months. Although the Parliament is fond of speaking about democracy, its internal procedures are not transparent, and women are still largely absent from its leading positions.

Currently women hold 35% of the seats in the EP. The European Parliament had had 13 president, and only two of those have been women.

Europe: Universities need more women, gender balance at the top

Source:

European universities are failing in the way they use human resources. Women are underrepresented at the top levels of academia, and there are good reasons to think that this damages universities.

In the 27 countries making up the European Union, 59% of university graduates are women, but only 18% of full professors are women. And only 9% of universities have a women at the top of the organisation. For more statistics, see the European Commission’s SHE figures.
