Promoting Gender Equity in the Democratic Process: Women's Paths to Political Participation and Decisionmaking

As it establishes a framework for examining the relationship between good governance and women’s empowerment, this paper also reports on the ways that a sample of fourteen Promoting Women in Development (PROWID) projects have influenced this connection. It offers recommendations for creating the conditions necessary to secure women's rights and examines the influence of these projects on three aspects of governance: political culture, civil society, and government institutions.
