Seminar Friday 20 April: Democratic Developments in Tanzania

Three representatives from Tanzania Centre for Democracy will speak at the seminar arranged in collaboration with the Danish Institute for Internationale Studies.

Background

Democracy in Tanzania may be at a historical juncture. The 2010 elections were described as the most competitive and legitimate in the history of Tanzania, and may be indicative of changing times after years of a one party dominance in the country. In 2011 Tanzania embarked on a long awaited constitutional reform, which could also have a massive impact on political life.

Friday 20 April DIPD and Danish Institute for International Studies host a seminar on the democratic developments in Tanzania. Through presentations on the state of political parties and multiparty dialogue, the constitutional process, and the role and composition of the political elite in Tanzania, the seminar seeks to give an insight into political life in the country.

Speakers include three representatives from DIPD’s new partner in Tanzania, Tanzania Centre for Democracy (TCD). Their visit to Denmark is a unique opportunity to hear Tanzanian perspectives on the political scene in the country.

Daniel Loya, Director, TCD

James Mbatia, Chair of TCD and the Tanzanian opposition party, National Convention for Construction and Reform – Mageuzi (NCCR-M).
