The Jordanian parliament is no stranger to screaming matches but a recent incident was so controversial that it provoked people to poke fun at their MPs online.

Earlier this week, during a heated argument over the Muslim Brotherhood, independent MP Yehia al-Saud was cut off by one of his female colleagues, Hind al-Fayez.

"Sit down Hind!" al-Saud yelled several times.

Afghan parliamentarian and women’s rights activist, Farkhunda Zahra Naderi, has said that the Gender Quota is key to enhance the political participation of women.

Ms Naderi made the suggestion during the Gender Equality Review Conference which was organized in the framework of Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE).

Quotas should be introduced to increase the numbers of women in parliament and public life to address the "dire" gender balance in Westminster, authors have told the Edinburgh international book festival.

Kamila Shamsie, the novelist, and Kate Mosse, the author and founder of the Women's Prize for Fiction, argued that quotas for women in parliament, though according to Mosse "a blunt tool", could "effect real change".
