The Liberia Elections Observation Network campaigns for 30% women’s representation at capitol

The Liberia Elections Observation Network (LEON), in collaboration with Carter Center, has begun an aggressive campaign to bring to realization the 30% representation of women in the political and governance process that has lingered in the Legislature for years now.

It can be recalled that the Ellen Johnson Sirleaf Administration submitted the Gender Equity Bill that seeks to establish 30% women representation in elective positions especially at the level of the Legislature.

The Liberia Women Leaders Network (LWLN), the local chapter of the African Women Leaders Network (ALWN), was officially launched on Wednesday, December 18 in Monrovia.

The launch, which took place at the Ministerial Complex in Congo Town, brought together women leaders from different spheres of society including government, political parties, traditional and the business community.
