A record number of women have been elected in Bahrain's elections in what officials say is an historic achievement that has broken the glass ceiling of representation in the country's parliament.

By the election's second and final round of voting on Sunday, a total of six women were voted in, doubling the number of female legislators in the tiny Gulf kingdom.

In the build up to the 2019 general elections, Nigerian women have thought it wise that if nothing is done urgently, the few women that were lucky to secure their party tickets may not get the kind of publicity they deserve to win during the 2019 general elections thereby being extinct from governance. To achieve this feat, they have called the media to make more visible their good character is capacities, competence and integrity since they do not have money for many adverts.

Lilongwe, November 27. Catholic Commission for Justice and Peace (CCJP) in the Archdiocese of Lilongwe has called upon political parties that have not yet conducted their primary elections to support women aspirants in order to have more women in political leadership positions.

The 2018 midterm election included a wave of victories for female candidates and major upsets across the country.

Salome Zurabishvili has won Georgia's presidential election, becoming the first woman to hold the office.

With nearly all votes counted, the French-born ex-diplomat had 59% of the vote with rival Grigol Vashadze on 40%.

Ms Zurabishvili was backed by the ruling Georgian Dream party while Mr Vashadze was a united opposition candidate.

Bahrain will field a record number of women candidates in the upcoming parliamentary and municipality elections to be held on November 24, although two of the three incumbent female MPs have decided to opt out of this year’s race.

While two women legislators, Dr. Jameela Al Sammak and Fatima Al Asfoor, have chosen not to seek re-election, at least 41 women candidates are contesting in parliamentary elections, while eight women have filed their candidacy in municipality elections.
